They say there's nothing more pure than a boy's love for his dog. I brought an Irish novel to read, At Swim, Two Boys, by Jamie O'Neill. AP photographer Muhammed Muheisen made a nice little visual joke with this picture. In 2001 Jamie O'Neill's novel, “At Swim, Two Boys,” was published to international acclaim. Earthfall's award winning 2005 production of At Swim Two Boys, based on the novel of the same name by Jamie O'Neill, is being revived for spring 2012, following a recent sell out tour. We throw out a couple of sentences from our current read to entice you to read the book (without spoilers, of course). Should Be Reading - Miz B - hosts this weekly event. Three Red Wing swimmers – Tanner Alms, Hunter Connelly and Ethan Myers – and two Winger relay teams are headed to the state swimming and diving championship meet after Saturday's Section 1A championship meet. O'Neill was compared favorably with James Joyce and called the “next big thing” by critics around the globe. I've seen it written as two words, “skinny malink,” but that doesn't seem quite right. Think Jamie O'Neill's `At Swim, Two Boys', think Colm Tóibín's `Mothers and Sons' or `The Master.' No, just read Richard Kramer. Well, a little fine tuning to that story gives you Two Boys, A Dog and A Swimming Pool. I love the way the Irish write; they reverse the order of words, like the title itself, which American-style would be Two Boys at Swim. And Irish writer Jamie O'Neill deserves the credit for the headline. In fact I saw the word again some 40 years later in Jamie O'Neill's book, “At Swim Two Boys” (2001), which takes place in Dublin in 1916.
